Dreams and Other Weirdness--29 Weeks

Every day these babies seem more and more real to us! Here we are in the middle of the 29th week, and it seems like between Steve and I, one of us has a dream just about every night involving the babies. My dreams mostly involve things like the babies being born and us trying to feed them things like peanut butter sandwiches right off the bat (or not having enough of something really important--like diapers or breast milk). So maybe this means I'm inwardly afraid of parenthood, or nervous about my ability to provide? I don't know, but I feel fairly at peace with it during my waking hours. Steve had a dream the other night that we brought the babies home and we thought we were supposed to store them in jugs of warm water...until we figured out they needed to breathe somehow! Go figure.

It is always interesting for me to walk around in public. I like to follow people's eyes as I walk past. Usually, they first gawk at my belly with a look of amazement, like, "wow, that lady looks like she's about to pop!" Some people even come out and say those exact words! After a while, they eventually look at my face, but it makes it seem like I am no longer a person, but a huge belly. Oh well, I guess people should be careful, but I try not to let it get to me too much. When I get comments or looks, sometimes I enjoy telling people I'm not due until November 26 (without mentioning the twins part) just to see their reaction. Then I usually add non-chalantly that it's twins, which brings up a whole new set of questions and reactions!

Doctors appointments have been going quite well, and everything is looking good, but both the perinatologist and my doctor have already gone over with us in great detail what to expect with the labor and delivery. They won't be stopping labor if it happens past 34 weeks (about 4 weeks away...yikes!)

At our Twins, Triplets, and More class, the instructor told everyone that we should all be eating about 3500 calories a day! Seriously, I don't know if I could do it even if I tried. But I am liking the idea that my job is actually to eat a lot and GAIN weight. Apparently the risk of preterm labor is so much greater with multiples that they want the babies to be as big as possible to increase their chances of survival. We were actually told to increase fat intake (like buying 2 % milk instead of skim, etc.). Wow, that seems so opposite of everything we've ever been told!

Another funny thing is that yesterday at my doctor's appointment, the doctor was trying to get a measurement, and it took her a few tries because Millicent kept kicking the measuring tape! That was quite a surprise, since she's usually the one to just chill and not move around a whole lot.

I'm sure there will be more weirdness to come, but it's just fun to go through this unique experience!
